Hi and thank you. I did the same with some that had gone to seed... pulled them up and ate them...they were fine. Im in the same boat as you... the raised bed they're in is falling apart so been waiting all this time for them to get to this size so we can demolish it.

They should start ‘bulbing up’ shortly.

Onions ripening up nicely.....that lovely tan colouring always is a joy. If the summer continues like this they will dry beautifully.

Be interested in how others ripen their onions. Here I lift when foliage starts to yellow and droop a little and spread them out over a a few battens spaced apart. Open end cloches to hand to cover in the event of dampness or rain. :)

Used to visit local allotments to pick some brains there.....some quaint and amazing ways these guys have but they seem to work well enough :)

My onions are still growing, still a good green top despite the dry weather up till now.

I usually leave mine until late Aug if they are still showing some green.
Then I lift and leave on top of the soil if the weather is dry, if not they go in the cold frame or greenhouse to dry off, then get put into net bags once all signs of green has gone from the neck.

Mine are drying in the poly tunnel @Verdun.. I wait like you then when tops die down I lift and dry on some planks in the tunnel.. when dry I rub them off and store on strings in the laundry shed which is cool and dry.. Almost had roast onions the other day though.. I still had some drying in the tunnel and I remembered them just in time

You all know how to upset someone (me)! I loved growing my Kelsaes before onion white rot hit the garden, I suspect infected bought compost the culprit?

I may try growing a few (lots) next year in buckets.

I'd be interested to know when you planted these @Marley Farley and @Verdun , as I grow mine from seed in early January and they still have lots of growing to do July/ August.
Just wondering why yours have stopped growing already.

Sets Pete, and no they haven’t stopped growing yet. I expect though sometime during August....just a few days away.....they will. :)
The best onions I grew were always from seed....sown during the Xmas holidays :)

My kelsaes are not anywhere near ready. I think I have another 3 weeks or so to go.... the leaves are about 36" high at the moment and very green. 1564253102750-1080096768.jpg
