Winter-flowering pansies mixed up

Hello,

True to form, I potted on my winter flowering pansy plugs without remembering to distinguish between the trailing and standard forms. So, should I pot them on again until they show their habits? Or should I plant them out now and then dig up and move trailing ones that are in the wrong place later on?

 

Not something I really grow @Emerion, other than the upright ones now and again, but perhaps potting them on and waiting is the best solution, especially if you're not putting the trailing ones in a basket/pot or similar, but want them for trailing over a wall in a border for example, where the upright types wouldn't be much use.
I don't plant out anything at this time of year unless it's well used to my conditions, and is a decent size, so it'll also depend on what you would normally be able to do.
I expect you could move them later though, but it would totally depend on the weather at that point, and how mature they are. Once it gets to proper winter conditions, it's never easy to move perennials, unless the ground is suitable enough. Too easy to lose them.

It's tricky @Emerion, because you don't want to make extra work for yourself if you can avoid it either!
I wasn't even aware there were trailing pansies - shows how rarely I consider growing them

They [pansies] tend to get eaten by slugs here, so I'd only ever have them in pots. I occasionally get some if I happen to see them, although the violas usually fare better. I had some nice dark red ones many years ago, for some extra colour near the back door when we moved in here, as there was no garden. They went well with the heucheras/heucherellas.
Hope they work out for you though - do some photos when they flower.

 

I would leave well alone. Take a chance and try to 'do better' next year. The trailing ones will probably get eaten by slugs first. I gave up growing them long ago because they do not stay in flower for very long.
