When I was Sandringham recently I saw a fabulous very old Wisteria grown as a standard. The perfume and the colour - magical.

So I'm going to have a try as a specimen plant in the middle of the weed patch called my lawn. Researched the most appropriate wisteria variety - and ended up with ordering Wisteria Floribunda Violacea Plena. Got the instructions on how to do it - ideally it should have been a single stem youngling, but I've had to turn a two stem youngling into a single stem. It will take a few years, but as I have no intention of moving I can wait.

Herewith the picture and you can see why I want to give it a try.

Anyone else grown a Wisteria as a standard?
