Quick pic of the back garden as it currently stands. Looking well very green! Sort of in between flowers as spring ones over and summer ones not yet out much. But happy with my efforts this year. I also have a side garden and a small front yard. I'll do some pics of those when I have replaced the dead rhodedendron! Not a big fan of lawns but need one for 2 under 5's and their football efforts! :heehee:

Thanks Penny, I live in the inner city so not much room! :WINK1:

One day I'd like a few acres! Even the victorian terraces round here have such tiny gardens. Bit frustrating for a keen plant person so I am on waiting list for an allotment... one day!

Thats true, i have seen some TV shows, that show the size of the city gardens, and they really arent that big are they?

Fingers crossed that you get your allotment, i think thats such a great idea....and i know they dont do much of that here in Canada.

It's a nice space Kate. How about adding some fragrant plants for when you get to relax in the summer evenings after the kids have gone to bed. There are a few annuals that would add a bit of colour and scent like Stocks or Nicotiana.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments. It's changed so much over the 7 years I have had this space. We had a lot of building work at the back of the house.

Behind the camera is a small patio which is currently completely filled by a trampoline so my table and chairs are abit cramped! :heehee: To be fair the kids are very good and enthusiastic waterers when required.

The idea about scented plants is a good one - I am not good at choosing plants for smell at all. I have lovely viburnum which smells divine when in flower but after that I guess there's not much of an aroma... I have one caryopteris which has a lovely smell. Hmmmm. I have thinking to do! :thumb:

I am hoping to sort out some reason for the arch! Maybe a focal point. But at the moment it serves well as goal posts. And I am not sure about a flowering dogwood - It looks ill and after 2 years it's really not thriving. I may need something else.

              Kate

Very pretty garden indeed.:)I would be tempted myself in a seat for the arch and also I think a mirror on that back wall attached to the fence but standing on the top of the wall would look good as well and would reflect light back onto the garden and would hide those knot holes in the back fence.:)

In fact I would take down the round plac that you have on the wall to the left and would add another piece of trellis like the one next to the gap and then would grow an nice fragrant Honeysuckle up it as the scent will waft into the arch and the bees will love it.:)

This is only my opinion as to what I would do and all the other suggestions by members are excellent as well.It will give you ideas as to what you may be able to do if you are not on too tight a budget. :)

:sunny: What a pretty little, peaceful looking, haven Kate.. I think you have done a grand job & out of all the suggestions made, John's for a scented garden is a must I think, as when it is small & enclosed like that you can smell them all the more..! :hapfeet: Thanks for sharing..
My ideas are Plox, Night Scented Stocks, Honeysuckle, Night Blooming Jasmine, Evening Primroses & I am sure there are more  but I can't think of them... :sunny:,

Really nice WolfieKate, and quite secluded inspite of near neighbours.

Thanks everyone. And some really lovely ideas! I have a mirror waiting to go up in the arch! But I need DIY skills and he's not been forthcoming. And sadly I have to report that a seesaw has appeared on my lawn. I have 2 sprogs, one at school and one at home.... the grass is quite rough so I shall see how it fares...

But then we kind of try to share the space - my needs and their needs! They love watching things grow too.

The weedy thing that's supposed to be growing on the left trellis is a passion flower! But it's kind of new and small. If it doesn't take off I shall get something else.

I'll try and take some pics of my front too as though it's a small space I think it looks nice.

I am enjoying finding somewhere to share my love of gardening.

                        Kate
