    Hello.
I bought 2 roses bare root from thompson and morgan called blue for you in January. Planted them a few days later, soil was enriched, they were soaked, well watered and mulched. All other roses in the garden (including other newly planted ones) are starting to grow, except these two.
The small branches coming off the main canes are fully brown and when scraped at the base of the rose there is a tiny hint of green but not mostly green underneath like other shrubs in the garden.
Only thing I can think of is that they don't get as much sun at this time of year as other roses do? Which could be holding them back?
Am I being impatient or have they suffered a random death?
The ground was not frozen nor waterlogged when they were planted, so not sure what could have killed them off.
Thanks in advance for any advice, I can add photos if needed.

Good morning @CharlieBot with them being only a few weeks old I should wait until April and then see what they are like,I know that you want them to sprout new growth like the other Roses, but that is because you care about them,I've frequently planted even roses of the same variety side by side only to see some take off and some languish. I think the tendency when coming across this for the first time is to panic and think you are doing something wrong. The response is frequently fertilizing more heavily or watering more. In all honesty the last thing you should be doing. fertilizing won’t help and neither will additional water. I think adding more water might hurt it because if the rose is not actively growing, it’s not taking up water and you may drown it. Additional fertilizer may push it too fast and burn it out. Let nature’s natural rhythms wake it up, if the worst comes to the worst and your roses are not growing take some photos. A good supplier will stand behind their Roses and if the roses never start to grow they will replace them. However, you need to have evidence.,please keep us updated my friend:smile:

Thank you so much for the advice @wiseowl, I knew you'd have wise words to calm me down.:phew:
I have watered them (woops) but only a couple of times since planted when we haven't had much rain. My soil is free draining so hopefully that won't have hurt them. :noidea:
I've taken a photo of each as they are now and will just have to wait and see. Until then I'll be checking them twice a day haha!
In other news, my friend bought a load of new shrubs and roses today and has just dumped them into her heavy clay soil with no soil enrichment or fungi added. 'Survival of the fittest' is her motto...I'm feeling anxious for the poor things (the plants that is) but knowing her luck they will be fine!

A lovely rose Charlie, I have one and they put on a lovely display right through summer and into late Autumn. I've found the flowers tend to have a deeper mauve hue when they first start to open and have a papery look about them. I also have 'Lucky!' It's identical in height, look and growth habit as 'Blue For You' but is pink/lilac in colour. Both are perfumed.

As Woo says, don't panic just yet, when roses are newly planted they take a while to settle in. Mine didn't show any real signs of growth until well into April in their first year of planting but they did bloom, although slightly later than usual. :)

Ah these pictures have got me praying! There are tiny dark brown buds on the stems, not sure if they are previous dead buds or ones which will go red.
So not a happy ending yet! I'm checking daily!

They sound like healthy buds to me Charlie. :) Roses tend to have a grey look about them if they are dead or dying.

Parts of the canes are brown. No sign of life yet. Every other rose including ones planted afterwards are all in bud. I'll give it another couple of weeks as advised and then contact T & M. Just shocking that aldi £1.79 roses are doing so much better!

Well, I had just reached the point of complaining and pulling them out...
                    image.jpg image.jpg
So the canes on the second one are pretty much dead bar the very bottom. I'm not going to prune them any more though.
Question is @wiseowl, will I see flowers this year?
Thanks again for the advice guys, it is much appreciated!

First one in pictures has 4 buds leaving out, the other one just 2 which gave only just started. Do you think it's worth complaining @Spruce?
