Just so I'm doing things right. A question on protocol. When I see something in a thread that I think I can use, like this one, I wade in thus deviating from the discussion from the original topic. Should I start a new topic each time I have a question? I currently have questions running in half a dozen different forums all relating to the same finished project. Please advise on best practice.

I have looked a these plants and several of the retailers suggest pairing them with blue geraniums. Orion has red autumn leaves. Nimbus is small and neat. Ideally I would like poppies but I am aware of there unsuitability. Daffodils in clumps spread along the border will be a nessecity I think.

Knautia macedonics is good, esp Thunder and Lightening.....a variegated one.
Dont squash things in.....give every plant good space to develop properly
I like elymus magellanicus too....very blue foliage, evergreen and unique as a grass.
You would buy Orion for the flowers....not really for autumn foliage
Check out aster Frikartii monch if blue flowers are wanted.......now flowering and will continue for weeks and weeks. More lavendar blue. More blues... Verbena Homestead purple and Rigida, Ceratostgma wilmottianum, caryopteris varieties, and others
Poppies are great for short time blooming but then are awful. They need space on their own and too unruly for any partners.
Be careful to avoid lines of clumps of daffodils.....I often see them like guardsman all rigid and unnatural looking.
You cannot have everything.....look at everything as individuals you might like but then see them as a picture together G.:)
Silu, the white form is ideal for a narrow white feature in the centre of a bright border. Apart from Red Thunder I also have this as well as White Tanna, more bushy, Blackthorn, Pink Elephant, Pink Tanna, Tanna and Lilac Squirrel. I like them all. Your Pink Brushes looks great :)

Knautia Macedonica tends to sprawl and flattens easily in high wind or heavy rain, so a sheltered spot would be ideal. Given the area you have I would be inclined to plant it to one side or at the back of the bed, not the front. It has a long flowering period and will continue if you remove the stems with dead heads. Bees love it! :)

There's no need to start a new topic for every question Jack, members tend to deviate from the subject under discussion and threads can be quite diverse at times going completely off subject. No doubt you will come across those at times. :)

Once you have them you will want more Harry......the movement of grasses, the length of flowering, delicate foliage and their subtle flowers make suoerb garden plants :) I have several forms here....all delightful :)

Absolutely agree @Verdun, the Pink 1 I have also has the bonus of nice Autumn coloured foliage. They transplant well from my experience and as I said before no staking needed for the tall varieties which is a great bonus as far as I'm concerned. Plants seldom look that good if having to be propped up.
