I would like to put up a couple of window boxes.
I would like them to be of year round interest.
They are not the easiest of windows when it comes to access for watering the window boxes, so whatever goes in there would need to be pretty forgiving. (Best access is from a carefully aimed hose so very unlikely to happen daily!)
The windows face SE and get summer sun for a goodly part of the day.

Naturally, ivies would feature (hope someone can suggest one that is "interesting") but what else might be suitable?

It would be so much simpler if I could water them easily

    Over to you ...

    Hi " M ",

I can start you off with a couple of trailers........

Lysimachia Nummularia ( Creeping Jenny ), the species likes moist areas but cultivated forms take dryness in their stride.

Cymbalaria Muralis ( Kenilworth Ivy .... Just to confuse matters, nothing to do with Ivy ).
I've got this trailing over our old birdbath and it looks gorgeous with its little "snapdragon" like flowers.

      Heuchera
      Wintergreen
      Layers of seasonal bulbs
Have Heuchera (purple) in hanging baskets sorry to say, largely ignored, but it faithfully strives on throughout the year.
Wintergreen in my window box, provides the green background in summer (I add seasonal plants around it) then berries in winter when colour is in short supply.
Layers of bulbs, because I always forget what I have planted so it keeps me interested in what appears each year lol!

You might want to use some water retaining gel to help retain water :)

Once I get the hose out to the front, I'm quite a good aim ... it's the dragging it out that is the issue (if I had to do it on a daily basis, that is :heehee: )

And I really did like your drought tolerant suggestions @Spruce - I plumped for "informative" because that is what it is .... INFORMATIVE! :lunapic 130165696578242 5:
