Everytime I cut my front south facing lawn, it turns yellow in nearly all the areas. I used to cut with a flymo, which has since broke. I now cut with a rotrary (for the first time last week) we had predicted rain so I thought it'd be lovely no sun to scorch it. But it has given the same result. The lawn, slopes marginally downwards from the house, it is not flat either. But these do not effect where the yellow burnt patches are.

    Any ideas!?

    Hi laid2lawn,
it sounds like either...Leather Jackets which cause yellowish areas, usually in irregular patches, and sometimes more extensive after a wet autumn. TREAT with an autumn fertiliser containing CARBARYL
    or:-
Fusarium Patch or Snow Mould, symtoms are patches of yellow, dying grass which later brown over.
In moist weather the patches may be covered with cottony, white mould. TREAT. with Benomyl or Thiophanate-methyl according to the makers instructions.
also make sure you remove the clippings as these do not help with drainage, and you get a build up of THATCH, which then you have to rake out.
    hope this was helpfull
    Paul

Could also be (for the grass) unpalatable soil.
I have the same problem as my soil is very
clay-y and the grass don't like it - no, it don't like it at all! (fake Norfolk accent!!!)
Thinking of getting rid and doing something really nasty like slate chips or something - yuk!!!

I work full time on a clay soil and have now got the lawns, about 6 acres, pretty good, even the croquet area is as good as golf greens. The problem with clay soil is it retains moisture and you get some areas that seem more quoggy than others, some simple tips to help, but not cure
scarify when conditions allow, followed by lawn sand, scarify again after a month or so when moss/weed start to go brown/black
then hollow tine the whole area, top dress with sharp sand, or hire a cement mixer and mix equal parts sharp sand with a cheap compost and brush into the holes made by the tining machine.
once the lawn has had this treament put on a lawn feed and weed, if you start soon you should have a good lawn by july/august.
in subsequent years put lawn sand on, scarify, weed & feed
    hope this was helpful
