This has just appeared growing in the gravel between my lawn and patio.

I'm pretty sure that I have identified it correctly but do any of you have any experience of it? Is it deep rooted? Is it invasive? Is it edible like the pink salsify?

You can eat the young flowerbuds, don't know about the roots.

    Thanks ziggy and Marley.

Marley, that was very informative. We always used to use salsify roots in cooking but wasn't sure whether this was similar. According to that extract you posted it looks as though we can use it. Also, it says it is perrenial so I shall have to dig it out anyway as it is is the wrong place.
