Had one in our garden when I was young and loved them. Haven't seen cheap trees or had the opportunity to take some scions for grafting so don't have any.

I (and lots of other people) find their unique flavour overpowering, but I find a small amount of WPM juice in wine (or cider) works wonders. I'm about to press my 7th gallon and not one Worcester Pearmain apple eaten yet.

Hate the rough skins. Russets produce great juice, but the juice from Egremont Russets has a green tinge and it can be a PITA to get the sediment to drop after pressing, so perhaps best blended and fermented rather than used as a single varietal juice for drinking.

Skins are great for holding toffee Scrungee! Hate toffee apples where apple skin is so smooth the toffee shatters off as soon as you bite into it!
Bit off the wall but russets also good with fondue cheese for same reason!

Never thought of that. I like it when somebody's able to turn a 'fault' into an advantage.

My best one is that those awful insipid French Golden 'Delicious' apples actually make decent cider if pressed for juice rather than being eaten.

An apple tasting event is a good idea for me to go to, but I just thought I would create this thread to see what were other members favourite apple varieties. Certain names mentioned I've never heard of so will certainly look into them.

My favourites are Coxs Orange Pippin and Worcester Pearmain and for cooking can't beat a good Bramley(s)
