@On the Levels I've never heard of beetroot wine. That sounds interesting. I've made faux grape jelly with beetroot but not anything fun like that. Is it hard to make? How would you describe the taste please?

My cctv is easy to download to a Usb storage unit too. I also have various areas of camera views masked. You can set it to record only activity on your property.

@CanadianLori making the wine was easy. We had pulled some beetroot many weeks ago but one was so large I had no space in bottles/freezer/eating. So decided to try for a wine. Peeled and sliced the beetroot and into a bucket added boiling hot water (about 3.5 litres). Covered with a cloth and left for 3 days, stirring every now and then.
Strained of the beet added 2 and a half kilos of sugar. Stirred until all dissolved. Put some wine yeast in the demijohn and then added the juice, put in the fermentation lock and left it to ferment. This didn't take as long as others that I have done so while today was supposed to be a decant I ended up bottling because it was ready.
As to the taste? It doesn't taste like beetroot in our opinion. The colour is a good red not very dark but certainly 100x darker than a Rosie.

Regarding beetroot wine I made some ages ago and it was a lovely red colour when made, some months later it had gone brown still tasted alright, you just had to close your eyes when drinking.

Then bottled the beetroot wine. First time I have done this and what a fabulous colour and taste. Hopefully we will keep it for the festive season!
You need to keep it in dark glass bottles.

Sadly none of the hellebores I bought and planted out last winter/spring survived the summer. My older, established plants are all fine and starting to flower.

It was dry here until 5 minutes after my new bare root rose arrived so it got potted up in the rain.

I have a wine "fridge" down in the cellar - it's full right now so I guess I'll just have to drink some of it to make room when I give beets a chance! :heehee:

Thank you for the instructions @On the Levels :)

                          Hi,

Thanks @CanadianLori It's the first time I've seen something copied to memory stick from my CCTV. The company who installed the system set it up regarding adhering to the law so it's fixed; it's so complicated though with no end of options; it's the best domestic system available here in the UK; the next higher system is the type used by the police.

When I returned from shopping this morning I found a police contact card had been posted through the letterbox saying many thanks which I thought very decent of the officer I spent an hour with this morning; I was pleased to help and now there's been a burglary on the street perhaps other neighbours will take notice and install CCTV. It's been a long day starting at 6:00am and I've just returned from Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield having visited my best friend whom I hope will soon be back home. At pension age hospitals often take up more time than we'd like.

                          Kind regards, Col.

@pete no wine cellar but a walk in larder where we do keep the wine bottles. So dark until we open the door but only for short times.

They do like a bit of moisture @Escarpment, especially if they haven't fully established.

Speaking of hellobores, I cut back the foliage of mine today. It's quite early but they have formed buds already, a few new leaves were starting to peak through and the old foliage was starting to flop.
