Our phone number when I was a kid was the name of the area plus 6529. Our phone number when Mrs S and I moved to our village was 296, no area code

Before we were married Mrs S used to phone me from the local telephone box and needed to get the operator to connect us. The operator got to recognise her voice and she sometimes told my wife that she could have the call free of charge. :blue thumb: :)

Everyone who uses their childhood phone number as a password is an easy target for hacking.

I remember my friends' phone numbers very well, and my Mother's office number too. Tremble, Noora H!

I always forget my work password over holiday and end up calling IT support to unlock me. Once after a particularly good holiday they asked me questions to verify my identity and started with my employee number ("BN something something... sorry"), then my office phone number ("can you ask Jeanie The Receptionist, I'm not quite sure"), my payroll number ("I have a payroll number?") and then finally I got my date of birth correct enough for them to clear me.

The support person kindly said that I must have had a very nice holiday.

I do not remember any of my childhood telephone numbers. It would have been a tad difficult as Dad, being in the RAF, moved us all over the globe after - at the most - 3 years in any one location, that particular posting was Kuala Lumpur. I do remember all my banking details sort code, account number etc. My browser remembers all of my security generated passwords for my general websites and autofills them for me.

Not really. It is just a random string of numbers and completely untraceable, AFAIA. A telephone number from the 1960s, or the 1840s where @shiney is concerned , is not recorded digitally anywhere, even if you could be linked to a specific address. Plus numbers only form part of a password. OK, if you are still living in your childhood home, that might pose a slight risk, but most of us have moved around a fair deal.

Hey! Don't exaggerate :nonofinger:. We weren't allowed to rent a phone from the Post Office until the 1880's (didn't become BT until the 1980's).

I can remember my NI number and my pin, but that's about it outside of plant names and plant nursery names.
A lot of other things just get called Eric if I'm asked.

I can, but it's still my parents' phone number, except that they changed the area code part at some point from 0742 to 01142. Sometimes I dial the old one :wallbanging:
