just wondering if icould get away with another prune on this forsythia as it's grown huge since I pruned it after flowering.

Don't want to miss out on flowers next year but don't want it so big. Any thoughts if it's ok to give it another prune?

I always prune mine around June/July as this gives it time to put on new growth without going too big as they flower on the previous seasons growth.

No, not for me Snorky :)
The bulk of summer's growth is over.....my own forsythia pruned almost 3 months back. .a risk you will lose flowers and encourage more vegetative growth unlikely to bear flowers. Pruned usually way back after flowering.....now is too late:sad:
I would live with it now and next year prune to include removal of some of the oldest wood:)
Whatever you do, it will be a learning curve.....you can let us know next year how your plant performed

Thanks @Verdun i pruned it about 2/3 months back too (when it finished flowering). Maybe i'll leave it this year then and give it a massive cut back next year.

I chopped back a gigantic garrya today-got out of hand and looked like it was getting a fungus too.

I am sure that nothing untoward has been voiced or otherwise taken place, so as to cause any unpleasantness.

Pruning, cutting back much depends upon the person, and what they want to see. I will gladly elaborate further if required. Forsythia is attractive in flower but IMO a plant, shrub that adapts to local conditions. In one garden it behaves itself and conforms to the basics of pruning etc. In onother garden it can go mad and rapidly become a pest. Here you have to perhaps change the rules and cut back as and when neccessary. It will still flower later.

hiya Mike....yep, forsythia seems omnipresent down here in spring......pruned or not pruned always a joy to see.:)
In my local Memorial Walk, I planted forsythia Lynwood as a tribute to my mother. The Memorial Walk and the forsythia were favourites of hers. She would have played there as a little girl......prob changed very little in that time apart from greater range of planting. A bench with a plaque will be added too. :)
