Hi Guys need to pick your brains again. Last year I planted around 50 agapanthus crowns , nothing much sprouted due to lack of water and various other problems, and it got very overgrown and tangled with weeds. I started to clear the border of its couch and thistles and god knows what other rubbish is in there thinking that all the agapanthus would be dead and came across huge crowns of agapanthus just beginning to throw out their shoots. The dilema is , to clear the ground I have to dig it over, I am wondering whether it wouldn't be better to strim off whats growing ( the agathanthus shoots haven't made it to the surface yet) and let the agapanthus grow where it is for now, I seem to remember in a thread somewhere someone saying they grew like weeds in New zealand in the hedgerows and may be able to complete and even smother the weeds. If I move them now will they have to go though another season of not doing much.

From memory I don't think Aga[anthus like being disturbed?

I also doubt they will compete with Couch grass etc ...

Perhaps put down weed suppressing membrane, leaving an X-shaped slit where each plant is, and let them grow through that, hand weeding any grass etc. that comes through the hole.
