Alocasia and colocasia... differance ?

    Hi,ive been googling elephants ear and i cant see much differance between alocasia and colocasia..one image on both searches even has the same photo:dunno:
    Is there a differance,im confused :scratch:

      this should be interesting my Colocasia is in the post and other summer bulb goodies should be here Thursday I have emptied the airing cupboard ready as its meant to be huge tuber so that should get it growing.

        I think it was PeterS, who posed a thread regarding the differences some time last summer, maybe.
        All I can remember was it had to do with where the leaf stalk attached to the leaf.
        I also think Alocasia likes it a bit dryer than Colocasia.

          I bought 5 colocasia elephant ear taro gabi bulbs from ebay(from india) and thats why i wanting to know the diff spruce,are alo the same as colo as elephant ear types :dunno:
          so much to learn!! :heehee:

          alocasia = leaves pointing up

          but also you have to look at the shape of the leaves ......
          overall I just start few eddoes in my propagator

            Now i know colocasias can grow in water but ive not searched alocasias at all

              I been looking in the supermarkets for some eddoes, taros but no luck yet.
              My local sainsburys sell all kinds of exotic fruit but not these.
              The 2 alocasia I got from wilko's the other day for 25p each are doing well and expecting colocasia black magic and colocasia sangria from amulee sometime soon

                Nice sal :) So are you supposed to put them in a bag or will compost and bottom heat do the same ?

                Hi edoes you can get from Morrisons. I brought some last year. They germinated in the airing cupboard. I managed to grow three last year, but have lost 2 over winter.One minute they are growing, the next, they just die.Have no idea what I do to them lol. Don't know if it is under watering or over watering.

                  Thats not bad quicker than mine , I had to remind mine they had promised 1st week in March same old as someone had said on here they where slow on sending out but all sorted now
