Apple Blight

    I have an old (over 40 years) cooking apple tree and every year, as far as I can remember the apples it produces all have brown blotches, this year is the worst.
    Any cures or explanation?

    Scab by the sounds of it :sad:

    We can't get hold of any chemical treatment now, it's not allowed for home use anymore.

    It fungal, so best you can do is remove infected leaves and fruit and burn them. Make sure all the leaves are cleared from the base of the tree in autumn.

      Some years ago I went on an apple growing/processing course with loads of drinking cider plus visiting the local pub for even more cider (+beer) drinking, etc., etc., but this is one of the few things I remember, rake up all the leaves and burn them.

          The fruit is still edible once peeled. Just don't put the peelings on the compost heap.

          And if you press the affected apples for juice, likewise with the pressed pomace.
