I'm looking for a recommendation of a good supplier of trees online. I've been looking at various websites including Ornamental Trees, Mail Order Trees and Roots Plants. I'd feel happier ordering with a recommendation or otherwise from discerning members here :). I'm presently looking for a small Crab Apple and am considering Evereste and Red Sentinel so any thoughts on these or others would also be welcome. Thank you.

I am always hesitant to recommend, a bit like restaurants, it can be a bit variable and “ one man’s meat is another man’s poison”!
I have used Mailordertree.co.uk in the past and found them pretty well ok. I am a believer in buying field grown trees bare rooted as long as you give them plenty of water during the first year if the weather is dry…..dry my god will it ever be dry again I ask myself with this current hellish spell of weather!
As for crab apples, I don’t grow either so cannot make comment.

Thank you @hailbopp, that’s good to know. As always, these sites have mixed reviews but having seen your photos of those magnificent trees in your garden, I’m sure you’re a good judge :).

Have a look at Ashridge Nurseries @Plantminded . I haven't bought from them for a while but didn't have any complaints with them :)

            Hi @Plantminded

I have bought lovely trees from mailordertrees.co.uk (big & healthy, good price) and it is usually the first place I check out online. A crabapple, a hazel and a sorbus. I think the hazel was quite big for the pot size and looked a bit root-bound, but i teased out the roots and it has been thriving. So overall I have been pleased with them.

I ordered a bare rooted Sorbus back in 2016 from Crocus and I couldn't fault them. That was over 10 years ago though so their customer service may have changed since then but the tree is quite happy still.

Thank you @CostasK, that’s very helpful. I placed an order with them yesterday, good sizes, prices and delivery charge. I will report back when it arrives :).

Thank you @Jungle Jane. I have bought many plants from Crocus over the years and have been very pleased with their quality and the service. Their prices are now a bit ambitious though so I usually wait for sale events to purchase :).

generally the smaller the tree the better it will establish, just will take some years to catch up.

many trees are available as hedging but they come as half a meter starters, will be several years before they make shade, but good if you just want to plant stuff.

You’re right @Adam I. I have bought young trees in the past but have decided on a half standard two year old plant this time as I’m less patient than when I moved here 12 years ago. It will need more attention, but I like a challenge .

I've had trees off ornamental trees. I would say they are good value, the trees I have received have been fine. I do have a cercis in a pot bought late last year. I would buy again off them.

They are quite common varieties nowhere local have any? Its better buying one you've seen just for the shape.
