    image.jpg Hi Gardeners.
Have recently moved into our new house and would really appreciate any help in identifying this plant as we would like to prune it but don't want to kill it!
Any help would be gratefully received!

Looks like an evergreen honeysuckle to me. Is it spreading? Very long stems?

Yes its very 'leggy' and hangs over I think it is a honeysuckle. Thank you. Now to read up on it. We are novice gardeners with a lovely back garden but no idea what anything is. May be back here soon :-)

If it is honeysuckle you may still have a few flowers but you can cut it back (as much as you like) any time after flowering.

We can't see any flowers, just purple berries. We have been here 8 weeks or so and haven't seen any flowers on it so far. When is it likely to flower?

Usually late summer but mine was early this year. Mine is massive (but it is about 20 years old) and still has a few flowers but mostly berries. You won't do any harm cutting it now.

Thank you very much for your help have been trying to find out what it was for ages our local garden centre thought it was a blueberry bush but that didn't seem right to us but you have now pointed us in the right direction.
We're just starting out on our garden and you have given us a good idea on what we can do.
The garden is quite shaded and were looking to introduce some colour all year round so were off to buy a good gardening book this week.
    Thanks again!

Best of luck with it. If the garden is already planted don't go too mad in the beginning, you may find all sorts of interesting things coming up in the spring. Honeysuckle loves shade but unless it's deep shade lots of plants prefer that to full sun.
