Hi what do other forum members use to clean their gardening tools such as hand trowel, fork and secateurs after as I dont want to cross contaminate anything. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

If I have been cutting infected plants down , I would wipe the secateurs with methylated spirit after use. Sometimes a quick spray and a wipe with WD40 , cleans and lubricates tools. Most of the time like 99% of other gardeners , I don't clean them .

If dealing with 'nasties', a good soaking in bucket with a strong solution of Jeyes Fluid.

If they're caked in soggy or hard soil, an even longer soak in the bucket and brush off with a stiff brush, which is then soaked in JF.

Remove dirt and sanitize with 1:9 (10%) Tesco Value Bleach (29p for 2L):Water

        (Jeyes Fluid is really stinky).

I rarely/never clean them, just wipe most of them on the moist grass. Secateurs and knives get a wash occasionally.

I'd only clean them if I'm cutting back something that I think might have a disease.
Then I'd go for the meths approach.

Other than that, a quick spray with WD40 for lubrication and stopping rust.

        I never clean trowels etc.
        Waste of time.
