I has a cosmos plant in a pot on the patio last summer, will it grow again this year? I am not sure if they are annuals or perenials.

Some are and some aint, perennial that is. But I dont think any are hardy really, Its possible that it could be alive, Cosmos astrosanguineus chocolate cosmos does form tubers which you can overwinter, but in a pot, they might well be dead now.
