        It's interesting to hear the negatives too. I have one mega dinner plate I can't wait to grow but at least I'll now be prepared for the rainy mess :D I might leave mine in the ground too. Last two years I've had no frost at all really.

            Huge fan here! I have taken mine up the last couple of years and all have always come back to life. They are now in pots in the greenhouse ready to kick start back into life before being planted out again. Always grow some in 12" pots with good success too! :)

              That's good to know. While I have a small bed to grow some in, most of mine will be in 12" pots. I have some dwarf varieties but most are either 'normal' Dahlia size or dinner plate sized ones. I've been advised that this is hard work due to watering but my garden is so small it's not really a chore.

                Yup, they do need regular watering but I find that enjoyable! Come back from a long day at work and giving them a good water and an occasional feed. They are mobile too so you can put them out the front of your house when they are in full flower. Happy days!

                  The big orange ones were 2 for £1 from poundland. They had them in again this year.

                    Hi Freddy

                    I have grown these before , they are a exhibition variety and just you wait till it flowers :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup: leagues above the rest , if I remember not the tallest of plants, cactus flower ( kept at the front of the border) but the flowers are held out above the foliage , you have picked a really good one and not that easy to get hold off I had to order plants as they never sold the tubers

                      Hiya Spruce :blue thumb:
                      I ordered them from here. I have bought them from this company in the past, and the plants have always been good.

                        Yes thats the one I think "Wirral" if I am not mistaken , it shows you how long ago as they only had a hard copy catalog at the time with few pictures in a just a description.

                        Great quality plants I have to agree, I cant wait for your photo's Freddy later in the year make sure you let me know.

                        I will have a nose and see what others I grew , "Spanish ???" looking may remind me.

                          @Freddy

                          found it "Weston Spanish dancer" [IMG] another cracker as you can tell I like the cactus type , as they stand up to the weather so much better than the "dinner plate type"

                            That's a cracker! I prefer the cactus type too. Another good one that I've grown is 'Match', also available there. The pictures don't really do them justice, they really glow in real life :)

                              just before dusk Freddy , I know what you mean its like someone has turned a light on in them.

                              None of the 3 we have mentioned are huge and are great for the front of the border even the leaves are not huge either which has to be a plus

                              I wish I had more space , and yes I am tempted ........ I bet sales must go up with what us lot put on here at times :snork:

                                What is the difference between "Cactus type" and "Dinner plate Type" Dahlias :scratch: Do the cactus have the tubular shape petals and the dinner plate the flat petals ?
