I wonder if there's any link with bitter cucumbers? I had to bin 3 plants this year that were consistently producing bitter fruit, despite taking off male flowers...

It looks as though we'll all be growing a variety of courgette plants, from different seed sources, in case we get the dreaded 'bitter fruit' syndrome. I've got some good recipes if anyone ends up with a surplus

Exactly what I was thinking earlier this morning whilst rummaging through my Squash Seeds box. Found a few varieties in unopened foil packets that pre-date this problem, but quickly got an order in for some different varieties.

OMG Panic buying of courgette seeds has started!

Bianca Di Trieste, Ambassador, Black Beauty and Defender.

Plus I already have Tuscany, Tristar, Tondo Di Piacenza, Midnight, Sunstripe and Black Forest, plus I have Pumpkin Summer Ball that can be used in place of Courgettes when small.

                Is that enough

                  Wow...more than enough :)

Thanks @Scrungee , are they all from the same supplier? Is there one you would recommend for containers?

I use them, with all the other usual suspects, to make about 60 x 1l jars of Ratatouille. Bottled, it's an excellent base for so many other dishes that would normally call for onions, tomatoes, peppers, etc.
Then there is a super recipe for sweet pickled chunks to use as a nibble or side dish. With green and yellow courgettes and bits of red pepper, it's very attractive, and tasty too :)

                    From about 6 different suppliers.

I've never been successful growing courgettes in containers, not even with small varieties like Midnight which are recommended for them.

We don't have any problem about supplies as we collect courgette seeds from our own plants. We leave one to grow large, enter it as a marrow in horticultural shows and then keep and dry the seeds for the following year(s). :blue thumb: My middle name is Scrooge :old: :heehee:
