Absolutely nothing FC! What about chips, cheese and gravy, also chips and curry sauce. All popular here. :)

Something I've noticed living here in the north west. When you ask for fish, you get fish, it's huge! Not like the south. :)

The regional variations are quite remarkable - not sure if its the same in England, but in Scotland if you go for fish & chips you get the stock "salt & vinegar" question in the west, but in the east that becomes "salt & sauce" the sauce being gallons of brown sauce.

Never had cheese with my chips and gravy (not sure I would like that one), but then many people would consider a deep fried pizza to be a horrendous thought, whereas they are the norm where I come from.

And I miss chips and curry sauce terribly, as it just isn't the same down here. Many's the night I have rolled home from the pub, via the local 'Chinkie' to get chips and curry all packed in the one foil tray to keep it warm til I got home.

No wonder my blood pressure is sky high..........

It has to be grated cheese on the chips first then the gravy on top, it all sort of melts in together. :)

I don't like the idea of deep fried pizza but I'm not a great lover of pizza anyway. I don't think we can get chips and curry in the 'Chineses' here, but all the chippies do it.

What I do miss from the south is deep fried Savaloys, there's only one place on the island that does them and a thirty mile round trip when I fancy some is expensive on petrol. :heehee: We can't get pickled gherkins either (the large one's known as Wallies), pickled eggs seem to be favoured but I don't like those.

Sheal, we have fried saveloys with Wallies in our village chippy :blue thumb:. It's run by Turks! :heehee:

They do brilliant fish and chips as well as chicken, kebabs etc.

Ooooo, what I'd give for a saveloy or two Shiney! What I really miss from down there is pie, mash and liquor (of the parsley sauce kind). That's what comes of being reared by Londoners for parents. :heehee:

Thanks Zigs but that recipe is too posh! The pie and mash I know needs to come from a shop in east or south east London where the recipe is basic and the pies are burnt black! An acquired taste. :heehee:

                      Aye, true.

It could have been worse - it could have been jellied eels! Now that definitely would have put the 'own' into 'each to their own'
