Fond of Fronds

Only much later I noticed the little guy doing some free-style flexing. Difficult with the phone to get good focus - here it's on a single little rolled-up pinna of Dryopteris atrata. The hair, the stripes and the curls combine to a pretty groovy look.

 

Adiantum mairisii joining the lamprocapnos Valentine. I like the black stems on this fern… A bit of a spreader, but it’s welcome here.

I enjoyed seeing this. A fern, [probably Dryopteris filix-mas I think. EDIT: actually probably bracken!], bursting up through a very densely clipped Lonicera nitida hedge. The hedge was about 3ft high, 2ft across and 12ft long, and there was no sign of the fern anywhere else - but it made its way out!

I was going to say that, but I know very little about ferns, but then is bracken a fern?

 

I'm not sure, so yes maybe it's bracken! There were lots of other ferns in the garden so I think I've jumped to a wrong conclusion.

 

I dont have many ferns but I do like this little one, probably classed as a weed.

 

Definitely wouldn't be a weed in my garden, but a treasure!

 

@pete Yes bracken is a fern and also a land grabbing thug if given a chance.

 

I've looked it up since posting it, its Maidenhair spleenwort or Asplenium trichomanes.
