A lovely species @NigelJ . I moved it from an area that was too dry (close to a massive Bramley apple) and as a reward I got months of striking copper young foliage.

@BB3 last year you had a small fern seeded into a rose. Did you manage to extract it and pot it on? I had one too; these are pictures from last year and how it is now. Still a small fern (and I'd like it to acquire a deeper green), but quite busy making a crown of fronds.

Thank you. Benign neglect seems to work.

Polypodium calirhiza "Sarah Lyman" this comes from California/Oregon and it loses it's leaves in summer and then reshoots in autumn.

Polypodium cambricum "Pulcherrimum Addison" a British native originally from near Morcambe

A first for me; I often do a round of the garden in the evening, this time I found two newts conducting some sort of business on a fern (I think Polypodium cambricum).

I was wondering where you fond-of-frond-folk like shopping for ferns? Are there any places online that are particularly good? Any not so good? I want to plant into shady areas, mostly veering towards dry shade and maybe some in to pots too. Thanks!

I have purchased a couple of ferns online, but the specimens sent have been below par. I do think it is a plant best bought from a GC or plant fair where you can choose a healthy one.

Can I ask you fern experts something? In my last garden I had a thriving dainty adiantum and forgot to bring it. It looked very like the houseplant version (raddianum?) but was hardy. Please can you advise which of the hardy ones looks most like the houseplant ie less linear, more spread out and delicate?

@ClematisDbee I've ordered plants from Long Acre Plants / Plants for Shade and was happy with the quality/service. Chatto is a good nursery in general. At some point I ordered some Dryopteris wallichiana from Waitrose garden and those were fine too. I don't order online very often, but Long Acre would still be my first port of call.
