Aesculus, the spawn should be black, if it is black and/or biege/creamy colour it has not been fertilised properly and will attract fungus.
Pete's above are black and healthy looking from what I can see.

Hi folks. In my limited experience, tadpoles aren't all they're cracked up to be. Going back maybe 10 years(?), we used to have one of those preformed ponds, maybe 6ft x 3ft. Anyway, we put in some small goldfish, and for a while, things were ok. Then came the tadpoles ! They harried and pestered the goldfish to such a high degree, some of the goldfish died. When I say harried and pestered, they actually nibbled away at the fins. Not a nice death, methinks. Cheers...freddy.

Glad I logged on as I was getting worried no sign of frogs with me in West Cumbria yet either.
Did notice the leaves were starting to grow again on the water lillies today though.

Well, I am glad to say we have had about 8 clumps of spawn - and I have had to put it in some spare water baskets to keep the fish off it - came home from work today to find the biggest goldfish half out the water over the edge of the basket sideways trying to get the spawn!!!! Greedy things - and I have started to feed them so's they leave the spawn alone!!! The "dots" have turned to "commas", so the taddies aren't far behind...... then we have to rig up a fish-free area somehow.......
Still hoping by some miracle we get some toads......... :)

Honeybee, if you haven't had toads in the pond before it is unlikey you will now, unlike frogs which will breed in almost any mainly still water, toads will try and return to the same pond even a mile away.
You will have a job keeping the fish away from a feast of spawn.

Yesterday our pale face albino frog was overly bloated with eggs.
This morning I spotted this spawn in our pond.
Now then... I reckon theres two possibilities here.
1 Its a duff batch of spawn
    or
2 We are going to have a few hundred albinos in our pond

    I shall keep you posted.

    Very interesting articles..thanks for posting.
I have decided to keep a watch on this spawn and see what developes. I dont think our frog is true albino because of the lack of pink eyes.
When hatching starts and if see a trend towards white in the tadpoles, then I shall shout..
    Watch this space folks....

At last I've got some frogspawn in my pond - latest I've ever had it - was beginning to think I'd been deserted.
West Cumbria wild life lives on!!
