    Greetings.

OK, so earlier this year I moved into a new house that, for the first time in my adult life, has a garden!!

It is not really all that big, being a patch of gravel with borders approx 15m x 5m, facing roughly south.

As it is, it’s fairly mature so I have decided, as much as possible, to keep things as they are and just maintain it as opposed to change things.

There is however a Fuchsia bush up against the wall that is puzzling me – towards the front of the bush the leaves are distinctly smaller than the area against the wall and there are no flowers – the flowers only seem to be appearing up against the wall.

    Is this normal??

How can I encourage the plant to flower all over as opposed to the “local” flowering is is currently showing?

Will post pics when I am allowed.

    Mark

Its probably because the wall is warm after the sun been on it which then release heat over the night. Just a bit of patience and it be hopefully covered in flowers soon.

Just wondering if it was cut back at some point over the winter.
Possibly the stems up against the wall were not trimmed whereas the ones facing out wards were?

Also outdoor hardy Fuchsias are quiet late in flowering compared to most other plants, but will do so until the late autumn frosts when the other flowers have long since stopped.

How tall is your bush ? Some of them have arching branches which droop downwards so covering the lower barer stems, but some of the really tall ones do tend to flower more at the top and can look a bit bare at the bottom.

Yup, that is the impression I get. And I like that idea - a plant doing what it wants/needs to do to survive.

Will wait to see what the rest if our glorious British "Summer" brings us!!

There is/was some dead branches/wood that i am pruning off as I find it.

Would love to find out just how old the plant is!!

Please provide more close-up pics. If possible. When was the house built?

I noticed a couple of small flower buds on the branches with smaller leaves earlier today, so I shall wait and see what develops.

House was originally built in 1862 as part of a farm complex.

Found out the Fuchsia was planted about 15 to 20 years ago.
