I don't really know the answer to your question, although am imagining quite an unwieldy long 'arm' coming out of the wall if you keep the parasol attached to the base...but am wondering if using gravel in the base might be heavier than water ?

I don't see why not- easiest but perhaps not the most stylish options would be a sturdy metal loop or two firmly fixed into the wall, and a length of that flexible tie with hooks at both ends... I honestly don't know what it's called in English but one used those to fix books on the bike rear rack. The tie would then just go around the folded parasol as needed.

Filling the base with sand or gravel will increase stability, 1 litre of water = 1kg where as 1 litre of sand or gravel = 1.5kg. You could look for a larger capacity base but then it would be heavier to move around or purchase a pole mount bracket DockMount_Part.jpg .

thanks for your replys the base is full of water at the moment i wonder if there is a bracket with a clasp on it so you dont have to undo the whole bracket to get parasol out for use
