Has anyone tried watering in garlic solution to help reduce onion white rot? I've read varying reviews and know it isn't a proper cure, but am wondering if it may be worth a try.

Not heard of the idea. I use garlic solution on my hostas to ward off molluscs, it works provided they are regularly sprayed. I don't think there is any science behind it. So it's worth a try for other problems like white rot.

Garlic solution could well have an effect on the problem. The White Rot Fungus exists in the soil as sclerotia ( dormant bodies ) which are stimulated to germinate by volatile compounds released by the Allium family. Once germinated they invade the bulb and produce fresh sclerotia which then reinfects the soil . If they are tricked into germination by the garlic solution they will then die , as they have no host to infect. Sounds well worth a try.
