Are there two separate plants? The green stems in the left picture that shows the trellis could well be winter flowering jasmine; the other plant has the grey figured bark growing from lower left up to the right. The other picture with the window in it I don't think is climber it doesn't look climbery enough.
There are a lot of dead leaves still holding on which is a bit unusual.

Apart from on hedges I usually associate dead leaves that haven't fallen off with dead wood.

Hi! Okay thanks I will try that before I do any pruning back - good idea. I don’t mind the size but because the leaves are brown -it does look quite sad really so a trim back would be good I think. Thanks

Hmm no, its really hard to know what plant type it is. I don’t mind really but just hope I can bring it back to life somehow :)

Yeah, that’s the worry - it does look about 90% dead

Hi- okay thank you. I think I am going to do a little ‘scratch’ test of the bark / trunk to see where the life is left in it as was suggested and then as you say cut out the dead stuff. I’ll send photos after thank you!

I have jasmine too but the leaves are different somehow - more of a reddish colour ...

No it’s actually planted in the ground and from the look and size of the trunk has been around for many years ...
