Well, I always start off my peppers, aubergines and chillies by the end of the month.

I have made up 4 quarter trays, dampened the soil and put them in the propagator to
warm up the soil, then perhaps, on Friday, I shall sow the seeds.

I want to have lots more of these plants grown larger to sell at the May
    boot sales. :psnp:

This is a nice coincidence. I just filled 32 soil blocks with my hot pepper seeds today. Thesd typically take up to 21 days to germinate so I thought id better get on wit it. Glad to see someone else is in sync with me!

Depends on the variety. I grow super hots. 7 pot, moruga, carolina reaper, douglag brown, bhut jolokia (ghost), bt scorpion.

my advice, peppers hate the cold. Don't let them feel anything inder 50f.

                Give them lots of calcium.

I've been growing most of these hots for about 10 years. I refuse to eat them but most of my friends love the heat in my breads, jellie, sauces etc....

Hi Wee Tam , never grown sweet peppers but I presume they are similar to Chillies to grow (?)
Chilli seeds can be a little awkward to germinate . I soak my seeds in weak cold tea for about 8 hours ( a tip I got on a chilli site ). Plant them in a small propagator in good seed compost . Then I put them in the airing cupboard to germinate , temp is above 30°c. Take them out as soon as they show then give them light and warmth. The problem for us "indoor" gardeners at this time of year is finding enough windowsill space !

HarryS is right about soaking. It cuts down the germination wait. I don't bother soaking as I don't mind waiting the extra days. My trays are on heat mats and down under light. At one time I had pots everywhere but now I've switched to smaller pots and soil blocks for starters so I can fit more under the lights.

Hi and thanks Harry & Lori.

I will do the soak with tea (interesting tip)

I`d like to sow now but the lack of light in jan/feb puts me off right now. Will wait till end of Jan at the earliest i think.

Unless i can learn wich type of led grow light i should use and if i can get an ebay bargain.

Thinking of growing under corrugated plastic sheets this year after last years chilly Summer . The outdoor toms will appreciate too.

                        Happy new year guys.
