Well, I've got to say, Jack, you've got my respect!!! For a guy who's had a stroke and a heart attack, plus having a frozen shoulder you're certainly asking the Gods to keep an eye on you by doing all that hard work, be careful Buddy.

When you finally get around to unpacking your Greenhouse and starting trying to erect it you'll need to take a course from NASA!! When I erected mine the plans were so vague as to be almost totally useless and it took some second guessing to work it all out.:wallbang: I wish you luck with yours:D

I do work hard but in honesty I have to say, I work for five minutes then have to sit down for a couple, then continue the cycle, Gets the job done though

      I have a life phylosophy
I would rather drop down dead at 65 fat , happy and doing something I wanted to do

Than be thin and miserable at 90 in a nursing home

Just watered the tomatoes tonight, and planted a bush for SWMBO
      Resting before this weekends onslaught

      Regards All

I do not know so much "Hero" or stupid :-)

The race is because I have tomatoes in a blow away, and went early for my retirement Greenhouse, thus I need to get it done to transfer them before they get too big

I have been let of the hook by the younger generation, they have actually recruited YOUNG friends to help with the work,
Now I can get on with my own thing this weekend, still lots to do though
The fence that had the shed alongside it for years, needs attention, Rail and Pale needs re nailed, and preservative
Then weed and level the ground after re-siting the compost bin

I am going to cheat at the re-siting, I am going to transfer the rough stuff to the council brown waste bin, and any good stuff dig it in, as it sits where my Greenhouse is to be, so saves moving the lot
I think I can see me finished by Monday night after taking the NASA course in Greenhouse construction

Tonight I just nailed up the fence, and pottered in the shed, throwing out all my electronic gear, that I can never see been used, that was heartbreaking for me, as I know after saving it for thirty odd years, I guarantee, I will need next week what I threw out today (expensive spares but I can not be bothered with e.bay and it weighs so much anyway the post would be more than the components)

My target tomorrow is to paint preserve the fence, move compost/dig in,
        level ground and lay paving
        Sunday build Greenhouse and site
Monday fit shelving and table then transfer Tomatoes
        Tuesday back to work

Tonight work on website, and enjoy some TCP anti-septic in the form of Laphroig my favorite, if I can not get my hands on some 100 proof Pussers :-) that is

        Regards All

Jack, your progress is great, isn't it funny, when you start one job it tends to snowball to others. :) I'll warn you though, it might take more than a day to get that greenhouse up. I won't tell you how long it took me and my son to build mine. :mute:

Set back today, heavy persistent rain all day,
Tidied up boxes in the shed ditching more stuff that may never be used, dozens of cabinet locks, pool table stuff,
Tried weeding the site I want to level but it was just too cold and wet

Moved some of the grandkids garden toys so I have room on a "Sunnyday" to commence building the Greenhouse

          Ah well

You're getting the rain that East Anglia needs, Jack:D When you do get to putting the Greenhouse up it might be a good idea to get a "second pair of hands", as there's nothing worse than being cold and tired, trying to hold two or more pieces of Greenhouse frame while trying to fit in a bolt or screw a screw in.

A lifelong friend of mine drove over a 180 miles to give me a hand when I was building mine. I'd dug over what had been part of a veg plot and laid a base of concrete slabs down. The weather was atrocious, snow, hail, driving rain and sleet and freezing winds. What with constructing plans that were worse than useless and the weather we managed to get the aluminium frame up in two days. Then my mate had to go back home and then he came back 6 weeks later to help me finish it off putting the glass in etc. I'm reasonable at constructing things but I was really glad of his help. Which is why I say it might be useful to get that "second pair of hands".

I'm like you, Jack, I'VE got boxes of stuff in the garage and loft accrued over the years which I kept 'cos it might be useful later:D Trouble was whenever I wanted to find anything I needed later I couldn't find it. Well, that is I'd find it after I no longer needed it!

I think I will take your advice on the second pair of hands, I have two strapping Son inlaws
I do not like stealing their time as they have young families to care for and weekends are precious time off Thus I try to do everything myself

My real life long friends are like yours a long way a way Since I ran away to sea and when I left the sea married up here,
Unfortuanately they are in a worse condition than I, even my Brother is terminally ill
My friends up here are really "aquaintances" thirty years and I am still termed an "English in comer"
Any way, way off topic now and as I said in an earlier post, when this project is done then I will post in chat or something more appropriate

            Regards Jack McH

Today I managed to level the Greenhouse base site, some job. 11' x 13'

First I had a small concrete footpath 12' x 2' to get up, fortuanately it was just a 1" skim
Unfortunately, it was a 1" skim on top of every boulder that ever could have been collected during the previous owners life, underneath however the soil was rich and black
Next I went around the other edges, with a hand trowel, and removed Ground Elder, it was more or less no more than four inches deep, more like a just under the plastic sheeting ground cover of roots only eight inches back from the edge

Then I dug out one spade depth all over on to taupaulines elswhere, dug a spade depth again, back to one spade distance, and commenced filling with 2 cubic meters of home made compost (I previously stated that my compost was wet and unusable, it turned out just to be the top 1' the rest was dark brown and slightly finer than shop bought grow bags) when that was done
I cheated and rolled the soil covered taupalines back in dropping the soil in place as it went (easier than shoveling it back)
Finally I forked it all over mixing the compost and the soil, and laid 18" x 18" slabs around the edges and up the centre (I put the previously dug up boulders under the slabs)

I never got to paint preserve the fence, rain and F1 RACE stopped play longer than expected

Worryingly I only sighted three worms and four earwigs in the whole operation

Tomorrow I will do the preserve on the fence, then leave the lot to settle down for a week, then I have the whole threeday weekend to do the Greenhouse itself bit (with assistance)
A week behind schedule but quite amazed at what I have done in six working days for free

              Regards All

You're amazed, Jack, at what you've done in six days???? I'm astounded:rolleyespink::thumbsup::love30::love30: The lack of worms will be resolved over time as you improve the soil.
What are you using on the fences/. There's a "pin to an Elephant" Store called "CHARLIES" in Shrewsbury, Shropshire which sells 6 litres of Cuprinol Fence Treatment for £6.50p which for around here ain't bad, so whenever I'm in the area I pick up a bucket or 3:D

I can not afford our local Cuprinol, so just use what is left of FOCUS pay less treetreetreetree
I did have some gypsies do a job for me, two years ago, they Creosoted the lot 36meters for £12, and as not into gardening at the time £30 to lay stones 36m x2m x 3"deep around the border though they did crack the old sinks with flowers in when they nicked the old brass taps
So I believe the wood is well preserved as it was tanadised when bought new in the first place and the preserve top up is for cosmetic reasons I THINK

Just re-nailed the lot as the wood is good but some of the pails nails had rusted through leaving loose planking
