I have just boughtba Campanula with lovely pink flowers i heard somewhere that you can divide up the plant and plant different bits around the garden.
Can you tell me how this is done please?
    Thanks

In the past I have divided campanulas by taking basal cuttings-"Irishmans cuttings" I think is the term, and by root cuttings.

You have to make sure there is enough material there for basal cuttings. The idea is to take a sharp blade and slice off a shoot with a bit of root attached-it will form a full plant, which you can either plant out there and then or pot up into a well drained compost/grit mix. It is a very easy way to propagate canmpanulas-I use this method with verbascums too.

Root Cuttings are slightly different in that you take the plant up completely and basically chop the roots into thick lengths and pot them up to form new plants eventually.

Be careful with plantiung them all around the garden, they have a greater visual effect when they are planted in thick drifts and tend to lose something when just spotted here and there.

I was given my campanula by a friend last summer - just a few rooted bits which I shoved in a pot until they had recovered then planted them out. They've grown like wildfire - I'm looking forward to a good display as they're covered in buds :)

I'd let the plant you've bought grow a bit before trying to divide it.
