Is there anything I can do now?

This miniature date palm was donated recently for me to revive and sell for charity . It has clearly been neglected. I have repotted . Is there anything else I should do now before new shoots in spring eg cut off brown stems ?

 

You could certainly remove the dead stems and place it where it can get more natural light over winter.

 

It looks frosted to me, or possibly been allowed to dry right out at some point.

I dont want to be negative, but I will, that has a long road to recovery, if it ever does.

 

Just be carful and put the light on , don’t want you getting confused lol

This is a wonderful thought. I suspect that it's not going to be easy or quick to get it looking well again, but I would remove the worst affected branches and move to a different room - bathrooms are not great unfortunately (usually low light + if there is a shower / bath, the changes in humidity are another challenge). Does the pot habe drainage holes by the way? (I don't see a saucer under it).

 

Thanks for your comments. She's in a ceramic pot . I'll take her out of that. I am so limited for space, especially well lit. I suspect greenhouse, shed or conservatory is out of question for Jan/Feb? I'm ever an opitomist, so I'll see how she progresses into Spring - poor thing!

 

I am not sure regarding greenhouse / conservatory (and the shed sounds like a definite no). I have a Kentia Palm in the corner next to the conservatory door (but within the main house) and it is surviving. Based on a quick look, yours should be a bit more cold tolerant than that, but still it's a plant that appreciates warmth.

Regarding the pot, you could put a plastic pot with drainage holes within the ceramic one, if you don't have a ceramic one with drainage holes, and just make sure to get rid of any excess water after you water the plant
