Thanks for that bit of info walnut ... perhaps you or pete or someone can tell me what to do about the Strelizia nicolai .... do I chop it down (including it's two babies) ?

The rest will recover .... the Rubber Trees are a disaster here in many areas where the frost pockets are, even the ones in the ground that are 15-20 meters tall ... I assume they will shed their leaves and start again. Funnily, my variegated one is unscathed but is slightly more sheltered. :thumb:

    Strelitzia nicholai ...

    Rubber Tree ...

Tops of the Jacarandas (lower fronds A-OK) ...

    Lantana and Poinsettia ....

Carissa macrocarpa .... Natal Plum (in pot) and Podranea ricosoliana (Pink Trumpet Vine) .... I know the latter will recouperate but not sure of the former ...

Luckily my Strelizia reginae escaped (maybe because they are minis) and I have two about to bloom ... they are a meter from the Lantana and Poinsettia ....

Oh, the Jacaranda photo was taken Saturday, the others today .... :hehe:

I'd wait a bit before doing too much cutting back, I know its on a different scale but plants that I thought had got through our freeze untouched are only now starting to show the signs of damage, mainly woody evergreens.

I'm guessing your frost was short and a bit sharp, if so its probably only killed off leaves and the new growth on the tenderest plants, any ripe wood should be OK.

Surprised at the nicholai and and the rubber plant though, maybe they caught it bad being on the roof.

:( Good grief looking a it, is almost like looking at England, but not quite...:( Lady I am so sorry to see it did that much damage..:( !
I think I would hang in there till all danger of any more frost is gone then trim out the dead with your vines.. Your rubber plant I like to think would come back, although lower down perhaps, but they can be a bit temperamental....:( Ask BM about your Banana plant perhaps as he is the man when it comes to bananas..!!!!:lollol:

:thmb: I wish you all the good luck with them Lady.... Keep us posted...:thmb:

has been counter ... the tops (leaves) of many of the orange trees here have suffered as they do with frost but the fruit will be okay. :thumb:

Thanks for answering pete. The original pics I put up are all ground level .... as is the Rubber Tree ...... it's the S nicholai up top ... and the Natal Plum and climber ... surprised it got hit as it's south facing but it's roots are very well protected in the orchard ... we have 'borrowed the orchard to plant a couple of our things in like the grape vine also .....:hehe:.

I will just leave everything and cut the hardwood stuff back in a few weeks and see how the rest copes with it.

    Hopefully most will recover Lol,:)
You are less likely to get a return spell of frost than we are.
As Pete said damage is in some cases just showing up, my Cycad has only now turned dark brown on the outer inch of every frond, the Leucodendron 's tips have shrivelled and a large Washy in town has gone completely brown. Mine is ok, we could easily have another freeze again,
    I hope not.
It has certainly been a testing time for tender and tropical plants here.:(

I would cut back anything that is soft and manky as it could lead to infection setting in.

You might need to invest in some fleece and plant protectors as a "just in case" for next year
