"I would call that a lake"

You're not confusing my tiddly little pond with my Blog post about Beth Chatto's garden are you? She definitely has a lake!

Kristen, I was thinking, it'd be nice to have a GC gathering. So, if we all turn up, you could provide tea and biscuits for the ladies, and beer and pork scratchings for us blokes :D Sound like a good plan ?

Hmm, thinking about it, £10 is a good deal. That works out at £1 a pint :D

Don't like the sexist turn this chat has taken-tea and buscuits indeed. A large pint of warm scrumpy if you please.

I've added an update showing what we have been doing during the Spring

We have removed the final Bits & Bobs from the Front Bed, after replacing the hedge. These were mostly herbaceous plants, and we've rescued about 100 plantlettes, levels the ground and prep'd it to be ready to sow grass in the Autumn.

The Herbaceous plants have been used, together with plants grown from seed last year, and nurtured in a nursery bed, and some offshoots from friends etc. to plant up the herbaceous bed.

We've been doing battle to get the weeds under control in the Shrubbery (which we rather let-go lass year being such a wet season and because of other commitments)

And we've started planting the vegetable patch (I've written a short article on the cheap & cheerful net cage for the Brassicas) and greenhouse (salad plants including Lettuce, Beet, Sweetcorn and French Beans).

Also an article on my rather hit & miss attempts at using Paper Pots for Sweetcorn

Excellent Kristen, I see you have had another very busy spring.

But only 1 layer of paper per pot! Those sweetcorn roots soon burst out of those :lollol: - still they are off to a flying start, no reason why they shouldn't do well with them given enough headroom.

I like your step by step photos on making the anti-butterfly nets, its something I've been meaning to do for ages.

Thanks John. Capney's video did say 4 sheets (IIRC) but when I rolled one sheet around the tin, and it went round a couple of times, I though that would do. (Obviously if you start with a long sheet of paper it has the same effect as twice as many sheets of paper which is only half as long; I was using broadsheet, rather than tabloid)

It might also be that my pots were crammed into the gravel tray, so there wasn't much in the way of gaps between them, so the sides kept nice and moist. The pots held together surprisingly well, its just the roots growing through the sides and into adjacent pots that caused the problem.

You could wrap them in cling film, but I certainly haven't got the patience of inclination!!
