Hi there, can anybody tell me the best way to go with regards to planting a new hedge. I have an area of about 1 acre to deal with so will need quite a lot of plants. I want to use Laurel, but have been told it can be dangerous to animals. This may be a problem as i have 2 dogs running around the garden. Is this the case or does anybody have any better ideas. Ps I live in central Italy and the temperature ranges from -10 in the winter to +38 in Summer, maybe this is also a problem?

    Thanks in advance

    Wol

    Hi Wol
Laurel presumebly means Prunus laurocerasus the cherry laurel, which is grown in Britain for hedges.
If it is said to be dangerous to animals, and it could well be, I would think they mean grazing animals, not dogs.
If you need a lot of plants it would be best to go to a nursery specialising in hedging plants, you might even get some other ideas there.
Could be a good idea to look around at what other people use for hedging in the area.
Summer drought could be more of a problem than the cold and the heat.
