Hi all I found some of the little pests on my lilies and I found some bug spray at countrywide stores and it is for all bugs especially Lilly Beatle I didn't think it would work but i thought I would give it ago and 1 month on and still no signs of them coming back it's called bug clear it's in a red spray bottle and it has a big pic of the little critters on the front it's worth a go

    Good luck!!!!!

Therein lies the problem when using chemical spray insecticides, Andy. The insecticide will kill all bugs and that includes Bees, Hover Flies, Lady Birds, Butterflies and so on so you have to be so careful when using it. I very rarely use chemical insecticides these days, and with the war of words going on at the moment over the use of neonicotinoids at the moment and the fact that they have been withdrawn from use by manufacturers and retailers just underlines that the well intentioned use of insecticide sprays does more harm than good.:dunno::snork:

Oh I was so caught up trying to get rid of those pests I did not think of the long term problem I only have 6 or so pots with them in and having just read your comments those pots are now in the conservatory and hopefully out off the way of all the other bugs

Thanks for your feed back !!!!! And I don't think I will be using the spray any more

I didn't mean to influence you really, Andy:dunno: :snork: Everyone has freedom of choice on how they use chemical insecticides and whether or not they use them. If one of my plants gets a really bad attack of aphids I will place a bin bag over it, make a hole in the top and spray into it that way which confines the spray to the plant and I leave it on for a couple of hours until the spray has dried, but it is on very rare occasions. You could use the same method for your pots. I use Roseclear in the early months of the year to reduce Blackspot, Rust and Mildew on certain of my rose but only in the late evening when there's no insects flying about.

I've executed dozens on the Frits

I need to get them under control as I have an increasing number of Lily species and then there is my Tricyrtis collection to worry about.

I have a huge number of Lilies but touch wood I have never seen a Lily Beetle. I suppose it's swings and roundabout with different weather. My garden has taken a severe hammering from a humungus frost last night but maybe up here it's too cold for the Beetles altho I have just Goggled it and they has been found in Fort William which is considerably further North and colder than where I live. Perhaps I need to be crossing everything and touching wood!

4 seen here. I have tiny black dots on the leaves of one lily which I think are eggs. But what to do with them? Can I wash them off with soapy water?

Strange - Scotland was where they were first sighted.
