    Hi All,

My Little Leo sunflowers have dropped majority of there petals, I have scrapped away some of the centre to reveal that the seeds are black. Is it now time to cut the heads off to dry and collect the seeds?

My understanding is, once the seeds have turned black you could remove the heads for seed collection.

I did that last year with sunflowers which had been given free with a well known gardening magazine. Only kept one because the wildlife were given the others (only six grew).

Scattered the seeds with careless abandon this year and ended up with over 70 sunflowers :heehee: This year I'm just going to leave them to do as they wish.

Yes it was my plan to get them off today, thought about it on Sunday and couldn't be bothered to go down the garden to shed to get my secateurs. My own fault for being lazy I suppose. They have been a real problem this year very destructive.

Wonder if that is a reflection on the queer weather we've been having? Gardens are suffering across the country, which in turn impacts on the wildlife.
