municipal compost horrors?

Don't know what Rossco thinks , but from my "recycling facility" it's far too co****.

 

I didn't do that!! It's that set of letters again!! It just won't let you say that word!! "rough" will have to do!!

 

They do have maximum levels for heavy metals and others, its the last column. The column that is blank is the minumum level. It is interesting to see that the chemical composition has both upper and lower limits. I am not sure what they do if it is outside the limit. I think that is when a bit of special canine correction is called for. :D

Rossco, if it has minimum levels of Nitrogen, Phosporous and Potassium, why would it not be OK for containers.

Think it's a measure put in after one of our members who shall be nameless put a rude word in......it seems the letters are picked up if they occur consecutively as in co****, p****, f****e, er- any crossword addicts? :D

 

As for the compost, I can't think what supposedly 'green' materials could be put in that would contain heavy metals. Animal products of any type [including human] will decompose nicely in such a large mix. Composting loos, anyone?

 

Looks devilish clever the auto-checking on the software running this site. There's one or two other sites I can think of that would benefit from it. It can be a real pain at times though. A couple of years ago I spent dozens of hours writing a spreadsheet to analyse school pupil attainment only to find that our local authority's email system filtering objected to a column entitled 'Ess eee Exx' and I had to spend a few hours changing it to "Gender".

Let's see what happens on here with the counties of Middlesex and Sussex.

Tomato seeds seem to be indestructible. Friends in Avon had a load of sewage slurry delivered and had toms growing everywhere. Our worm bins work a treat but we get tomato plants from composted fruit shooting up if we don't bury the compost from them quite deep.

Having used the council 'compost' in containers, pots etc. there is a marked difference it the production of flowers, although the leafy growth seem to go mad.
this is my own veiw, and why I stopped using in pots etc.
got far better results mixing my own in a cement mixer, to my own recipe, and may market the stuff when I retire, so no blend will be forthcoming to members....so sorry

 

Once was In Chelmsford, (Essex for those who don't know!). I was walking along the high street and opposite was a run of shops with rather dinky arched cover on the frontage.
I was aghast to notice one shop seemingly called "THE ...SEX ORGAN SHOP"!! On walking a few steps further though, on I saw the rest:
"THE ESSEX ORGAN SHOP"!!!

(Oooh! That one got through as well!)

Incidentally, apropro the human/doggie waste issue - just what do you think that black stinky slurry is that they spray on the fields of veggies every spring!!!

 

Funny! I thought I has replied to this on Friday but I cant see the post so am posting it again. As I was so worried about what I had put on my garden (1 tonne of garden compost -recycled) I sent and email to the producer of the compost and had a phone call from one of the directors i think it was! Cant speak for all composts but the one I had delivered was classed as 'stable' and fir for purpose'. I had a long chat with him and basically its derived from source segregated waste. Apparently there are other types of compost from municipal waste that resembles compost but contains contaminents. The man I spoke to assured me that the stuff I bought was PAS 100 accredited (i lloked it up on the web) and that it was approved by the soil association. It probably would be no good for organic gardeneres as its bound to contain all sorts but I felt pleased that I has spoken to them as I felt better thjat what I had put on dodnt contain all kinds of nasties that i didnt know about such as doggy poo and sewage and just contained stuff which I thought would be there.Hope this helps.
