My best ever bargains were red and white forms of Clianthus puniceus at three quid each. Both stood at two metres, although I snapped the white one trying to lug them to the tills before anyone else grabbed them!

Hi Armandii, I think I've mentioned this before but I live 10mins away from Crug. It has just reopened for the season a couple of days a week. I like going there and maybe picking up a plant or two. There is a good article on Crug in a Plant Hunters book I've got. And their online catalogue is good to search through too. I'm hoping to get a Rodgersia or two there next week.

      You lucky so and so!
Hoping to pay a visit this summer, as I've had stuff from them before and it has always been good. The main reason is for a major raid on the Tricyrtis section, but I'm sure that the plastic will get a right hammering!

You never know, the three of us might bump into each other there. I'll probably drive there in June and I'll be eyeing people as they buy stuff there, just in case!!:snork:

Hi Longk, I'm not too familiar with Tricyrtis, do you have many ? Are they in the ground or in pots ?

We will go there either before or after the school holidays. The Tricyrtis that I'm looking for is this one.
This is another that I want. Probably mail order them (the first is out of stock at the moment) so as not to miss out.

The album of my bloomed Tricyrtis is here. I have a couple of seed grown ones coming along for this year too to add to the collection.

        I keep them in pots.

Wow, nice looking blooms. So they can be grown from seed ?

You need patience and to be prepared for pretty low germination. It's also good to remember that you have put them in the fridge as they need cold stratification.

I was in Marlows (dunno if that is nationwide? Its a hardware store, but they have some furnishings, lights, and a fairly extensive garden centre) the other day and they have moved all their smartly bagged up perennials to tightly-wrapped-in-a-plastic-bag with just a sticker for the name. 3-for-£4

I had a rifle through, and bought a few, but was surprised to find Paeonia "Bowl of Beauty" in there ... as a container plant they are £10+, and even Gardening Express sells them for £4 each ... bargain I reckon, although they only have 4 of them left :)

          So I bought:

          Eucomis Sparkling Burgundy
          Papaver Perry's White
          Anemone Whirlwind
          Astrantia Claret
          Acanthus Spinosa
          Dicentra Ivory Hearts
          Paeonia Bowl of Beauty
          Hemerocallis Crimson Pirate
          Eryngium Blue Wonder

I think I bought 24 plants in total :) just got to keep them alive now ...

P.S. They only have one Anemone left, but it had a really long "mane" of roots, with shoots all along (probably from being in-the-bag), so I've split it up into 10 separate pots!

Four quid for the Sparking burgundy alone was worth it!
How large is the bulb? Eucomis are easy from leaf cuttings too.

Yeah, except I got 3 for £4 in case you hadn't clocked that ?)

"How large is the bulb? "

About 1.5" - 1.75" diameter - so 12 cm circumference? Looks to be a decent size and about the same size as the Eucomis I bought from Anglian Bulbs

I only had one, so was really chuffed to get some more at "affordable" prices.

I must call in there more often :blue thumb: except that its the other-side-of-town.

Yeah, I got that! A reasonable sized bulb too!
