Hi all, Newbie here and also just moved home, from very heavy clay we are now on the top of a hill with a thin layer of topsoil and rocky limestone popping up everywhere. It a steep garden with many challenges but I am very much looking forward to creating a garden - and learning from you all.

Grass first. There is a lot of weeds. Can I get it back to a lawn and keep it organic?

Apologies if there is already a thread on this - I'm sure there probably is

    Thanks

Sorry, I can't help you with a lawn as I don't have one. However, someone will be along shortly who can,

    Hi,

We do like to see pics of your problem area if you can.

There is a Lawns section to the forum where you might find a similar enquiry.

Is there an existing lawn there over grown with weeds or are you looking to clear the weeds and start a new lawn, seeds or turf ?

While removing weeds can be done organically, sometimes the only practical way within a reasonable time frame is to use a chemical method.

It also depends on your physical abilities, hand weeding /digging large areas can be backbreaking !

@Longarmedmonkey Welcome from another newbie. How exciting moving to your new home. I bet you are bristling full of all the potential projects that comes with moving to a new place. I am not best placed to advise on a lawn, and I agree with others that a picture of two would really help those in the know to assist. Looking forward to seeing your new garden develop :-)

Welcome. I ended up with a lovely lawn at a previous house, which was just weeds to begin with. However, repeated cutting got it back to lovely grass and a sea of daisies.

Depending on the size of your lawn you can weed it by hand. Some lawn weeds can be controlled by severing the root with a knife, other like dandelions need a long tool, a screwdriver will do to start with.

Mowing regularly will control and eliminate many lawn weeds too.
