      ***Update***

The two little seedlings are still alive and well and coming in to leaf and encouragingly the new growth is that lovely orange/pink seen the photo at the beginning of this thread and the variegation is very apparent so they have retained the variegation so now all I have to do is grow the little beauties on :)

              Another update......

My little tree is coming on really well now and the stem is already developing a 'snake bark' pattern :)

The photo of the stem is a little blurred, couldn't get the camera to focus on it :snork:

Is it a snake bark maple Bilbo?
                Looking very pretty this evening,

I'm hoping the pattern continues to develop as it ages, that along with its lovely leaf colours will make it quite an attractive tree :)

I know when I found it amongst the hundreds of plain sycamore seedlings there were no trees resembling it in close proximity as I had a good look over the fences and walls, so don't know what variety it is or if its new(ish:snork:)

A couple of up to date photos, one showing the development of the stem better :)

                          Just noticed this thread Bilbo.
I also found a variegated sycamore seedling many years ago.
After a couple of years I grafted it onto a sycamore growing at the end of my garden.

Its still there now, but I have to hard prune it every winter as it gets very big.
I lost the original plant a long time ago.

I find its at its best in spring, when new leaves are orange, as summer progresses it tends to look slightly less attractive.

I think there are a few named varieties of variegated sycamore.

That's interesting Pete, this too looks better earlier in the year when the variegation has more clarity but to still have some leaf colour as autumn approaches I like it :)

I do know of a couple of variegated sycamores which look similar in leaf but lack the attractive bark this has and the red/pink new growth of this one :)

Just a note to those interested in Bonsai. With most flowering trees the flowers don't grow smaller even though the tree has been Bonsai'ed . It looks particularly effective, and peculiar, with laburnum. :)

Well this original tree is still doing really well, I'll get a photo soon :)

However yesterday I was working in another garden and had to clear several thousand sycamore seedlings from a patch if gravel and amongst the sea of green I found this handful of little beauties :snork:

Here we go again, let's see how these get on
