Old seaweed liquid as a wetting agent

I’ve got a sealed container of homemade liquid seaweed that I made some 5yrs ago.
Would that still be ok to use as a wetting agent for the lawn. ?

 

I've had Maxicrop seaweed extract go off after 2-3 years - the smell was just rotten, so I'm not sure how long yours would last - have sniff and see if it still smells like seaweed. If it does, your lawn will appreciate it, as would any other plants.
If not, then down the drain or on a compost heap.

Seaweed does contain organic surfactants so would reduce surface tension of water, but that in itself would be of no benefit to your lawn.

I would use it whatever it smells like. I can’t think that it would cause any damage even if it has gone “off”?

 

It seems to me that liquid seaweed can start to smell 'off' when it is exposed to air for a prolonged period. However it will still perform as normal in my experience.

 

Personally I wouldn't waste it on the grass, I'd use it on the vegetables or the flowers where you can get some benefit from it.

 

I agree to prioritise, veg etc but if you have plenty then it will benefit the grass. It will green it up but also help it be stronger more resilient through the winter. Use fortnightly more dilute than you would on other plants .

 

I would dilute it 50% and use it on fruit and veg. Most of the home-made feeds, comfrey, nettle, etc., smell disgusting, so I wouldn't worry about the smell.
