 You're more than welcome Snorky but do you really want to leave that lovely garden of yours?

Hang on a sec you two, I only have two bedrooms here, that could be a problem. :heehee:

That's very true. How about an air bed in the sun room? :)

Indeed not - a shed, in Scotland, in winter.... no place for a lady.

Similar to here. T'other Half has no interest/desire with gardening. He will do DIY but it is only ever 90% finished, usually a very obvious bit. :runforhills: On top of that he leaves bar codes on everything!!! :thud:
Now, I like those neighbours!

The front garden is approximately 140 x 70ft. Below are the remains of the joint boundary wall running fall length from front through to back, and very uneven in all respects. I have no intention of rebuilding it but will tidy it up as time goes on. The derelict fence, propped in places and mostly held up by fresh air, still manages to contain the horses. The crofter that rents the field has been promising to replace it since we moved in. We're still waiting, crofting is a very laid back way of life. :)

And from back to front. All along the back and side was covered in bracken until earlier this year.
                      153.JPG

Even though the road is single track with passing places we still have a bus drive through every two hours and for eighteen months logging trucks were back and forth. Then of course the inevitable....regular tractors and occasional herding of cattle and sheep. The drive entrance currently being open Mr S and I were woken early one Sunday morning by the sound of hooves and cattle calling. Looking out of our bedroom window at the back of the house the garden was filled with a herd of cattle that a crofter had lost control of on the road. We weren't amused at the time. :)

                      021.JPG

The only flower bed, or excuse for one that was in the garden has been removed and turfed over.

                      001.JPG

This is an old image of the area at the top of the garden that was used as a dumping ground for grass cuttings. I've removed some and left the rest to rot down. It's almost level now apart from large tree roots and I've started turning it into a kind of woodland plant area. I've planted wild Primroses, natural Snowdrops, Crocus, Chionodoxa and Iris Reticulata. I will eventually add Daffodils and Anemone's. Sorry, I don't have an up to date shot of the area as yet.

                      031.JPG

This area is on the road side of the pines above. Although you can't see them the ground is still full of protruding rocks and tree roots. I hope to dig the rocks out over the winter months, tidy up the area and level it. There are plans for this area too but I will tell you about those further on in the thread. Just beyond and to the right of the water supply marker are two young Rugosa Roses (Alba) with two opposite on the other lawn. The front garden faces north west so the roses are suffering with lack of sunshine and shade from the trees. I planted them two years ago but if they don't improve in growth and flowering next year I'll dig them out.

Couldn't agree more, Mike. Not only incredibly knowledgeable, but also very kind, patient and never condescending with anyone who knew less than him.
