We considered a cattle grid @glengarry23 but it would have to cover the whole 70ft width of the garden. It would also create restrictions when we drive out. The garden is on an incline and the road either side is blind when pulling out in the car, so stumbling across a grid at very low speed at the top of the drive could prove difficult, especially when it's icy.

We've accepted 'A's quote but we have to wait until the Spring for the work to be done. He's a man in demand at the moment. :)

At the top end of the garden today. I've been digging rocks out of this area, it's about 12 x 12ft in size. Where both the front and side boundary walls have gradually collapsed many of the rocks have been buried. When I've finished digging them out it will still be very uneven because of large roots from the pines - there's not much I can do about those. I will eventually get some topsoil down to fill the dips.

I spent an hour or so digging and produced a small mound ready to move. The larger rock was too heavy to prise out of the hole so it will take two of us to move it tomorrow.

A few bits and pieces I've dug up. There's rubbish buried all over the front garden, asbestos, wire, plastic and slate. I dug part of an engine, a tyre and a handful of used medical syringes out last year, but buried treasure remains elusive.

I'd started to dig around this rock but unearthed some fencing wire running across it. Another job for tomorrow as I don't know how far it runs to the left. To the right it runs into the stone wall.

Build a cairn with them! It would make a novel but traditional feature...

Nice idea Nick but they haunt me now, without them being stacked high for me to see. They will be placed on the remains of the side boundary wall, the only thing that defines between my garden and the neighbouring field.

I hadn't thought about that @Snorky85. :) A good idea but it had best wait until the new fence and gates go up next Spring to keep the cattle out, or it could end up as a flat pack again like the front wall. :heehee:

We don't @shiney, the nearest one is 100 miles away and as it happens I've never been inside one. My flat pack reference is to all those things that can be knocked down easily, particularly modern day housing. :)

You think so @ARMANDII ? I didn't manage to get out there today to deal with it, but it might well see this old dinosaur off when I do. :heehee: There are others much bigger than that but 'A' has to deal with those with machinery.

Well, the Plinth that I've moved from the Patio, on my own, to the middle of the border weighed 190lbs and I didn't have any Spinach to help but, if you've got a Tin of it handy that might work...
