I have just taken off a tarpaulin that I use to stop weeds over winter. I have now seen two stems starting to appear which look to me like rhubarb. I already have a 5 year old crown of rhubarb planted but that is about 1.5 metres away. So, how could I possibly get rhubarb growing where I have not planted anything. Does rhubarb have long, laterally growing roots or something??? Wild seeds from last year???

What is also weird is that my original crown is showing no sign of life and no shoots so far even though it is still in the soil and should have beView attachment 101185View attachment 101185 en "forced" by the tarpaulin

    Any help appreciated....

Certainly looks like it. Did you have one go to seed?

If not it could have grown from a bit of root that got cut off.

This one grew from a 10mm bit i broke off last year.
