    Hi everyone

Was just wondering if it is possible to plant winter pansies in pots, while having tulip and daffs bulbs in the compost underneath. Will the tulips and daffs still flower in the spring?

hi Mow yes I always do, put bulbs in first, then pansies on top...the bulbs will come up and the pansies will still flower, my pansies never stop all year....and get the sun all day, but need more watering then usual...I cut them back in May to about half, as they start to trail...and then dot summer bedding plants amongst them. Many get overgrown a bit by other plants during summer, but will be back ...when the summer plants vanish,
Sometinmes I wonder which are the winter pansies lol.

[IMG] I sometimes plant my bulbs in 2 layers too, it seams to make the flowering time last a bit longer with some bulbs. Have you thought of doing winter hanging baskets. Ivys, polys, primroses, pansys, small bulbs, euynemous to name a few. If you look in the garden centre there are quite allot of different plants you can use. Just adds a bit more colour in a different way. I have terrible trouble keeping summer baskets dry, but winter baskets can look really spectacular if you cram them a bit, & you don't have the same problem as in the summer keeping them moist & happy. Just another thought. [IMG]

[IMG] Well I have noticed plants starting to pop up in some garden centres already & bulbs are around I usually keep my eyes open for nice plants & snap them up when I see them. Then start planting up, it's usually end of Sept before I have time to plant up, but I see no reason why you couldn't start sooner as you will be able to keep them fed & watered. Will be nicely established, I would keep them out of direct sunlight to start with to as it is still so sunny.

[IMG] I also have a couple of pots with Hellibores, surrouded by snowdrops & crocus, another option, but there are many plants & bulbs you can use.
Happy planting & good luck. [IMG]
