Progress check on my planting please!

I planted some well established plants in my border back at Easter time. Originally everything looked great but over the last week or so I have noticed some changes.

First off are my Lillies which I planted from a well grown pot, they weren't flowering but they were definitely fully formed with the heads.

Now they look like this:



Is this normal development and I just need to deadhead the plant?

Secondly some rhodedendrons. These were planted quite young. One of them has been flowering magnificently but has recently started to drop flowers everywhere. The other one has never really flowered.

Again is this normal behaviour?

I think lily beetle may have visited your lilies Cardinal Red
Your rhododendrons!......I wouldn’t be too concerned about them flowering or not or about aborting flowers prematurely . You said they were young plants. I always remove flowers and buds on young plants to help them concentrate on building strong roots and foliage rather than early flowers.
Just keep them well watered

No sign of the little blighters when I've been inspecting the flowers over the last few weeks but might have just been unlucky.

I did see several ants inside the remaining flowers today though - an issue?

 

Usually ants are a sign of aphids Cardinal Red....the ants themselves don’t cause damage

 

Looking close at the lillies. Verdun, yes could be lily beetle but. The foliage appears to be exceptionally clean and damage free except for a very swall nibble close to the base of the defective plant. Lillies are susceptible to an assortment of viruses, not all being drastic, but nevertheless annoying. Then again even a simple change in the weather might be responsible. However as only the petals have been affected, I'd remove the flower head and burn it. Exammination of the bulb might be worthwhile later.

Concerning the Azalea. This is quite a coomon thing with flowers of this kind of segmentation. Don't worry. Enjoy your garden.
