Propogating Dicentra Spectablis

    Wonder if anybody knows re the above. I have just moved a big clump of the above and as the roots are quite brittle quite a few have broken off. I don't need any more but often give excess plants to the local gardening club. I am pretty sure you can propagate Dicentra Spectablis from root cuttings but not sure if you do them by laying flat or "plant" vertically a la the likes of Acanthus. I had better find out before I give the club the excess roots as some members (not all:)) are clueless and seem much more interested in yakking than learning! I like both:).

    Never tried by root cuttings but was very successful by dividing a clump. The only issue you may find is that I believe it should be done after flowering.

      Thanks @"M" I agree splitting is very successful but don't feel inclined to give the club any of my clumps. I give them vast amounts of stuff from my garden which they sell to fund trips/keep for themselves alto they'd deny that!! I was a member but felt it best to depart as got fed up with the lack of members who had a genuine interest in gardening and decided best to "exit stage left" before I made my feeling known.
